History
Dominic Ricciardi originally started as a goalie in the now defunct “Godfrey Place League” back in the early 80’s.  After many years of patrolling the net on the unforgiving pavement, Ricciardi moved on to greener pastures and soon joined the Busdrivers roller hockey team located in the Rink in Montvale NJ.  Changing positions, Ricciardi became a low scoring defenseman known for his ability to (illegally) crosscheck opposing forwards clear across the rink and into the boards.  Ricciardi’s poor skating ability, along with his rougher then normal style of play usually resulted in high PIM numbers year in and year out (which didn’t faze Ricciardi at all).  The Busdrivers, who would eventually relocate to McKay Park located in Englewood NJ, went on and made the cup finals their first year in the league, but lost to archrivals Boltex!  The following year the Drivers were bought by a small logging firm located out of Saskatchewan Canada, and eventually renamed the Giants.  With Ricciardi named assistant captain, the Giants played two more seasons before filing for bankruptcy.

For a while, Ricciardi and defensive partner Chris Poggi would play for Bridge Technologies in the Chelsea Pier’s league.  Contract disputes, along with high fees associated with crossing the GWB and parking put an end to this union after about two years together.  Ricciardi was once again a man without a team.

In 2000, Ricciardi’s career was resurrected by the newly formed Ice Dragons playing in the Ice House in Hackensack NJ.  Once again Ricciardi took the reins on defense leading the Dragons to the playoffs.  With all-star players such as Chris Poggi, Brian Hoppe, and Jim Suozzo, the ID eventually went on to win the cup their first year in the league.  Named the Captain the following year (mostly due to the fact the previous captain quit and Ricciardi was the one collecting the league fees) the Ice Dragons played several seasons but never reached the final round of the playoffs again.  In 2003, the Ice Dragons would be no more.

Ricciardi was left to wonder why so many of his teams had disbanded.  Filled with doubt, and sadness, Ricciardi was ready to retire.  Minutes before the press conference announcing his retirement, Ricciardi’s agent received a call from longtime partner Chris Poggi.  Poggi had just signed with the Hoboken Rockets and managed to secure a spot on the team for Ricciardi as well.  With renewed spirits, Ricciardi joined the club.  After a rough regular season, the Rockets came alive in the playoffs winning the cup for division 7.  Currently, you can see number 63 patrolling the blueline for the Rockets captained by Roger Muller.  Ricciardi says he gets the most enjoyment from his new club watching Muller work goalie Kelly Delia into a mind blowing frenzy during games.

Fun Facts

Ricciardi has battled teammate Jim Suozzo on several occasions for team PIM leader…Ricciardi switched numbers from 3 to 63 after the retirement of longtime idol Ken Daneyko…Ricciardi has managed to unintentionally meet several NHL players in various locations in North Jersey (Martin Brodeur, Jason Arnott, and Peter Sykora in a movie theater in Ridgefield Park, Doug Gilmour walking in a mall in Paramus, John LeClair in a mall in South Jersey, and Scott Stevens in a Starbucks in Roseland NJ)…

History
Chris Mandato started roller skating in the late 70's and played pickup hockey with kids in Fresh Meadows Queens.  After several years away from roller hockey, Chris decided to try his hand at ice skating and organized hockey.  He helped form and was Assistant captain of the Flames, a beginner team in the Hockey North America League - Long Island.  In their first year the team finished 2nd in the standings but won their division championship.  In the next two years, Chris became captain and added another championship to the rung while switching to play defense in his 3rd year.  Professional and family commitments took Chris away from the game until making a comeback in 2007, signing as a free agent with the Hoboken Rockets, the team captained by long time friend Roger Muller.  You can usually spot Chris quickly on the ice, skating furiously without the puck, careening into both movable and immovable objects....leaving teammates and spectators shaking their heads.

Sad Facts
Chris accidentally broke a fellow Hoboken Rocket teammate's nose by accidentally tripping and falling into her......Erika Muller.
Peter Gordon »

Name: Peter Gordon

Age: 43

Transaction:

1984 Drafted 3rd round (59th overall) by Toronto Black Hawks
2002 Signed as an unrestricted free agent by NY Spiders
2003 Signed as an unrestricted free agent by NY Ice Cats
2006 Signed as an unrestricted free agent by Hoboken Rockets

Scouting Report:

Assets:
Possesses tremendous hockey smarts and has the ability to find his teammates with excellent passes. Defends well.

Flaws:
Guilty of occasional brain cramp. Lacks ideal size for Power Forward. Doesn't shoot enough on the power play.

Career potential:
Top pairing defenseman

History:
After being drafted in 1984 By the Toronto Black Hawks as a young scoring winger with great potential, Gordon only lasted 3 years in the eastern Canadian league before being forced to retire due to injuries.

After ending his 15 year retirement, Gordon returned to the ice with the hated SPIDERS in division six and quickly became a heated rival of the ROCKETS.

Back in his glory days of playing a skilled forward in CANADA, Gordon had to transform his style to a more rough dirty physical style of defense in order to survive in todays game. With his new style of play Gordon quickly becoming a fan favorite.

After being pursued for years by the ROCKETS GM and president Roger J. Muller Jr, Gordon is now a senior member of the Hoboken Rockets and is starting his third season on defense. Gordon looks to continue his upward career while playing the best hockey of his life, since joining the ROCKETS Gordon's game has reached the next level and has become a complete player while playing with a better core of teammates.

Work Awards: Not an award per se, but Jim has been named the Chairman of the Products Liability Committee for the Bergen County Bar Association.  (Oh yeah, the chicks did that!)

Drafted: Year: 1999; Round 1; Pick: 2 Orange Crush; Free agent signing 2000 Ice Dragons; Signed 10 year mega-deal with Hoboken Rockets in 2001.

History
One thing is for certain, when you play the Hoboken Rockets, you will always check the ice before taking your shift.  Failing to do so could cost you some teeth…or even a limb (or two).  Jim Suozzo, center for the Hoboken Rockets, is never one to back down from physical play on the ice.  In one legendary clip (still shown on youtube) Jim not only decapitates the opposing team’s goalie, he even attacked two fans who were cheering him on!

Jim’s humble hockey beginnings started when he was just 5 years old.  Playing pond hockey with his brothers and neighbors, Jim learned the finer points to the game such as skating, developing an impressive slap shot, and how to slash the unprotected area behind the goalies leg pads without the referee seeing it.

Fast forward 30 years later.  Suozzo toiling away, playing in barbaric pick up games on Friday nights at the Ice House when he was noticed by scouts from the newly formed Orange Crush.  After speaking with GM Dom Ricciardi, and assistant GM Chris Poggi, he was signed to a one year deal to play forward.  Suozzo had finally made it to the big leagues.  One year later, Jimmy found himself on one of the top lines of the Ice Dragons.  An improbable run led by his skills (and brutality) Suozzo found himself a world champ in the Div 7 league in Hackensack!  Two years after winning the Cup, the Dragons folded.  A highly sought after free agent, Suozzo signed on with Roger Muller’s Hoboken Rockets.  Not forgetting who gave him a break, he contacted both Ricciardi and Poggi and was instrumental in getting them signed on as well.

Suozzo once again lead the charge into the playoffs and was rewarded with another championship this time with the 2005 Hoboken Rockets.  Jim now serves the Rockets as an alternate captain and will gladly sharpen any teammate’s elbow pads for free.

Fun Facts

Before joining the Rockets, Jim played against them several times in Hackensack.  During the course of one contest, Jim sustained an elbow to the head from team captain Roger Muller which caused him severe pain when ejaculating (true story).  This problem has since cleared up…as a lawyer, Jimmy has successfully negotiated his way out of several 4 minute major penalties downgrading them to 2 minute minors (along with serving 10 hours of community service and 3 months of house arrest)…Jim has been voted MVP of several teams he has played on (Rutgers Intramural League; and the Cardinals in NNHA)…Jim has been team leader in PIM on EVERY team he has ever played for (aside from one)…the penalty box in Rink 2 has been renamed the “Jim Suozzo Home Away From Home” due to the amount of time he has spent there…Jim likes long walks on the beach and blowing bubbles with his daughter…

History and Awards
I worked in my business driving a garbage truck in NYC and Brooklyn until about age 32. When I got off the truck I almost went crazy from lack of physical exercise until a neighbor suggested hockey. At that point I never even skated except ounce on a lake in PA. So my hockey career almost ended when the guy running the pick up game told my friend not to bring me as I might hurt some one. This totally motivated me and I took power skating with Laura Stamm who later became the Islanders skating coach when they were winning all those Stanley Cups.

In 33 years, about 100 championships. I started playing in leagues at Bergen Mall in 1978 and we won the championship. Since then I have played an average of 9 leagues a year, including full check for about 10 years in Mennen and Sportorama. At 40 I started playing Tournaments with the New York Applecore all over the world. Russia, Finland, England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Montreal, Toronto, Scottsdale, San Diego, Buffalo, Moncton, Kennebunkport, an places I can’t  even remember.  This year I was a player on both Rockets teams that won the Championships in the Ice House. Both my level 4 & 6 teams were champs.

History

My lovely wife & I married in Sept of this year.  We have been together since the Spring of ' 03.  My Mother & Father challenged me to play hockey @ an early age.  I love my parents dearly for everything they've made possible for me.  I have 2 brothers.  My bigger, yet younger brother John plays w/ everyone.  John is very caring too (although he's known for his intimidation out on the ice).  My youngest brother Michael is very important to me too. I enjoy watching him grow.  Michael hasn't joined us on the ice but is a shark at the card table, along w/ versatility on the baseball field.  Michael is working through school now, becoming a graduate just like his older brothers.  I can't say enough about my family.

Name: DeBlock, Ben
Position: Offense
Shoots:  Right
Number: 25
Height:   6’1
Weight: 172 (wet)
Age: 27
Experience: 5 Years pond hockey, 3 years street, 2 years roller, 1 year ice
Drafted: 1st round Hoboken Rockets in 2007

History
After becoming the pond hockey champion circa 1993, at the age of 12 DeBlock wanted bigger and better things. His dream was to skate in the greater Binghamton area for one of the many pee-wee teams. However, the 6am ice times and Sunday morning games did not sit well with the would-be parents of a future star. So, back to the pond, shoveling, cutting holes in the ice, sucking water through a hose and squeegee-ing the water to make a smooth “ice-rink-like” surface would be the only path.

Not to worry, the pond-hockey star would be born. He could fire top shelf past the non-existent goalie into the 3’ high cage from anywhere on the 50’X50’ sheet. His wrist shot from right wing was deadly. Then, global warming wreaked havoc on this pond-hockey star. Winters were mild, ice was, well, water. There was no ice to skate on and no quasi goals to shoot at…

High school came in the early fall of ’95; word got out that this pond-hockey hero could handle a puck and maybe even shoot. His frame was frail but his will was that of Greek god. Standing a staggering 5’8” and tipping the skills at 118 llbs., he gave high school hockey a shot.

The rink was so big and the competition frightening. All the new equipment made skating a chore. What happened to shin guards and gloves? The helmet made vision blurred and the fancy pants made a cute ass enormous. Not to worry, it’d be real hockey, on a real rink with real goals.
Tryouts came and went. Nerves won and skill lost. On the first one-on-one drill he let the defensemen ride him into the boards like a little school girl. Skating the face off circles with the puck on stick meant one of two things: puck on stick and skater in wall, or skater on circle and puck in corner. Needless to say, it didn’t work out so well. There’d be no Varsity letter, no game winning goal and no chicks waiting for the rookie hero.

Years passed and next thing he knows he’s got a crooked back and Doc. Kelly fixes it and says “you play hockey?”
“As a matter of fact I do. I played in highschool.”
“Cool, man. You should play for the Hoboken Rockets.”
            “Sweet, I’m in.”
And that’d be it. A new league, a real rink and real goals to score on. It finally came true. The dream would be a reality…

Pat Chang »

Name: Chang, Patrick
Position: wing or defense
Shoots:  left
Number: 6
Height:   anywhere from 5/7"-5'8"
Weight:  anywhere from 191-196
Age: 48
Pronounced: Pa-DEE Hang
Experience: 35+ years ice , roller and street
Drafted: Year: 1993

History
Given the fact that Pat was born in Toronto, Canada, hockey is in his genes. Growing up in Queens, he played all positions in several roller and street hockey leagues as well as playing goalie for his high school ice hockey team, Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx.  During his undergraduate years, he started the Stony Brook Street Hockey Association (SBSHA) with his roommate Fred Lettieri.

Pat has been playing hockey for over 35 years and was recruited by Roger Muller after years of playing against each other in Hockey North America (Roger's nose was broken during one of our memorable games).

Given exponentially increasing injuries (Pat is currently recovering from a slap shot to the face that required 12 external and 2 internal stitches and a partially torn labrum), Pat is hoping to play as the "D.H." for the Rockets and skating only during overtime shootouts.  Minor highlights of his professional career include: having played at Nassau Coliseum and the Meadowlands playing for the HNA Killerbees and losing the the national semifinals in OT to Chicago in 2000-2001 (the year that the Rockets won the national championship in their division) playing for the HNA Killerbees and losing the national championships in OT to the very same Chicago team in 2003-2004 winning Hackensack House League championships with the Hoboken Rockets in 2004, 2005 and 2006 beating the 2007 Fordham Prep team during our annual alumni game with a shootout goal.

Fun Facts
Pat's tendency to spend most of his time in the offensive zone has earned him the moniker of "pattyhang" Like many of the Hoboken Rockets, Pat and Roger "met" after Pat was induced to viciously cross-check Roger from behind after enduring (yet another) barrage of trash talking verbiage from the legendar #9 :-)

Pat and his wife just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.  Given the fact that they live on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey, it could either be said that they have no kids or approximately 2,700 adolescents!

His younger son plays baseball and will be at St. Joes starting this year.

Even with a lack of puck handling skills, Steve’s skating ability is what really keeps him in the game.  At 5 11, Steve is an intimidating opponent.
Rob Suozzo »

Name:  Suozzo, Rob

Position:  Winger, some center, occasional D.  Notable as the only defenseman in the league who cannot skate backwards.

Shoots:  Left

Number: 18

Height:  5' 8"

Weight:  190

Age:  39, eternally

Pronounced:  Suozzo

Experience:  Not Much

Born and raised:  Hackensack, NJ

Formative Years:  Grew up developing bad habits playing pond hockey in the two weeks each winter when the pond out back froze.  Played with my brother Jim's well -worn, hand-me-down figure skates that had seen too many of his double axels.  (Ask him to show you one during warm-ups!).  Learned to stop using the jagged toe edges.  Transition to hockey skates without jagged edge took away my ability to stop; and I still can't.  Also deprived me of using my brother's favorite move:  "accidentally" spearing opponents with the pointy back edge of the blade.  Pond rules allowed no lifting of the puck as no one had any money for equipment and wanted to get in the way of a flying puck.  Result: still can’t lift the puck, resulting in career-long scoring drought.  One thing the pond taught me that still stays with me:  I'm still highly skilled at avoiding thin ice.

Junior Hockey:  After giving up a lucrative career as a windshield squeegee guy, joined the Owing Sound Metalmakers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.  Position:  Irving the Miner (Mascot)

Transition to Pro:  After suffering badly broken leg and compound finger fracture playing in local softball leagues, decided to pick up less dangerous sport of ice hockey at age 39, after 27-year layoff.

Started with roller hockey and first played ice with C-Level Merck Biohazard, Woodbridge, NJ.  Promise of free beer induced me to join the Atoms of Hockey North America, B-level.  Embarrassingly flunked the league's mandatory skills assessment and proudly earned the designation as the worst player in the league.  But all Atoms make it to the bar or have a few in the parking lot after the game, which is what hockey is all about, no?  (Note--I'm still looking forward to my first team cold one at Bowler City!)  Once scored freak goal on Bruce Driver, former Devils and Ranger star who now tends a pretty mean goal in HNA, bringing on the worst of his legendary temper tantrums.

Started Ice House career after being scouted in 2004 by diminutive Ft. Lee neighbor Bill Julian, GM of the winless, oxymoronic Little Giants.  Played along with several other current Rockets, who would probably prefer to remain anonymous.  Team later changed its name to Giants when it got tired of ridicule.  Still couldn't win a game.

Joined Rockets:  2006 as a non-roster walk-on/unpaid intern.  Skills had been improving for a couple of seasons, but are rapidly sinking below the level of when I first started.  Still have no concept of basic hockey rules such as offsides, hand passes, icing, or not using my stick as a weapon.

Goals:    Short Term   See my ultra-violent brother survive the current season without getting murdered in action.  I'm hoping my birthday gift to him (pink hockey gloves) will elicit chivalry and assist in his survival.

Medium Term  Become the first hockey player to wear a four digit number on his jersey, such as 9110.  Sadly, current Rockets jersey has too many Muller Insurance advertisements and logos to allow much room for this goal.

Long Term  Play hockey on the same line as my grandson.  Would require me finding me someone who will put up with me, getting married, having kids, and then a grandson, so this is obviously a really long term goal.

Awards:  Walked off with MVP of Merck's Company-wide Hockey Tournament in Montreal in 2005 (after true winner failed to show up at the banquet to claim prize, and nobody was watching the awards table).

Claim to fame:  In a Juniors tournament, taught Jagr how to use a blow torch to bend sticks past the legal limit, giving him a devastating shot.  In return, he taught me not to skate too hard and to master the art of the retaliation penalty.

Occupation:  Environmental Operations Engineer and Chief Garbage Collector, Merck & Co, Inc., Rahway, NJ maker of Vioxx and Vytorin, both safe for hockey players.

Resides:  Rotating between Weehawken and Hoboken, depending upon how well my girlfriend can put up with the smell of my hockey equipment.
